Mr Bruno Sgromo, Consultant Bariatric Surgeon
Mr Bruno Sgromo is the Lead Consultant Bariatric Surgeon at the Oxford University Hospitals, Oxford, UK. He earned his MD in Italy in 1998 and completed general and laparoscopic surgery training in Italy and in the Netherlands.
He joined the Upper Gastrointestinal Unit of Oxford in 2007 as senior clinical fellow and then was appointed as Consultant Surgeon in 2009. Mr Sgromo has been performing weight loss surgery since 2004, with focus on gastric bypass and revisional bariatric surgery.
He specializes in laparoscopic gastric band, gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and revisional bariatric surgery. To date, Mr Sgromo has performed over 500 keyhole surgeries for weight loss.
Julian Milo, Anaesthetist
Mr Julian Milo qualified as a Doctor at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine in 1990. He did his Postgraduate training in London and the Oxford region. He was appointed as a Consultant Anaesthetist to the Oxford University Hospitals in 2003. He was a member of the Intensive Care Society Trainee Committee from 2002 – 2004.
He represented the ICS trainee committee on the IBTICM. He was an Intercollegiate Board Tutor between 2006 and 2010. He was an examiner for the Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine since 2007. He was the lead examiner for OSCE section of the new FFICM examination from 2012-2015. He is the Lead Consultant Adult and Churchill ICUs 2013-present. He is currently a Consultant in busy general adult intensive care unit with a special interest in anaesthesia for upper gastrointestinal cancers and bariatric surgery.
Liz Ward, Specialist Bariatric and Surgical UGI Dietitian
Liz qualified as a Dietician in 2001 and has worked in a variety of clinical specialities including Oncology and Upper GI Surgery. She was involved in setting up the Oxford Bariatric Surgical Service and is experienced in the assessment and review of complex patients prior to and following primary and revisional bariatric surgery. She provides specialist advice, education and support for the nutritional management of this patient group and their carers. Liz’s experience includes working closely with surgical and oncology services within the Oxford University Hospital Trust to improve nutrition to patients with oesophageal and gastric cancer. Liz is a member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA), the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons (AUGIS), the British Obesity and Metabolic and Surgery Society (BOMSS) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Liz is a Mum of two young children.
Dr Daniel Zahl, Consultant Clinical Psychologist
Daniel has worked in health psychology since 2005. He works in the NHS at the Churchill Hospital and has a private practice at the Manor Hospital. He runs dedicated bariatric, diabetes and chronic fatigue clinics in the NHS.
He is a cognitive behavioural therapist and supervisor and provides assessment and treatment of adult mental health difficulties. He is involved in both the pre and post-surgical phases of bariatric surgery and has a particular interest in working with patients post-surgically to overcome specific psychological problems that can arise and in attaining weight and lifestyle goals over the longer term. He often meets with patients before surgery.
Dr Rustam Rea, Consultant Physician Specialised in the Treatment of Diabetes
Rustam collaborates with the Oxbariatric team making sure that patients diabetes is optimised in preparation of surgery.
Caroline Fletcher, Specialist Dietitian in Bariatric Surgery, Weight Management & Diabetes
After qualifying as a Registered Dietitian in 2010, Caroline worked in Birmingham for four years in a variety of clinical specialties. She then joined the Oxford Bariatric Surgery NHS team in 2014 before leaving to take on the role of Lead Diabetes Dietitian for Wiltshire Health and Care in 2018. Since 2016, Caroline has been a part of the Oxbariatric team alongside her NHS commitments. She supports clients during pre-operative assessment and post-operative follow-up, providing advice to optimise nutritional intake and help clients to achieve their health and nutrition goals.
Lisa Francombe, Personal Assistant to Mr Bruno Sgromo, MD & Coordinator for Oxbariatric
